What Is Portable Chargers

The Mekel EV portable charger series is designed for EV owners who need reliable charging beyond the garage — at work, on road trips, or visiting friends. Unlike fixed wallboxes that stay mounted to one wall, this portable EV charger goes wherever the car goes. Offered in two power specifications — 3.7 kW (16A, single phase) and 7–22 kW (32A, optional single or three phase) — the Mekel portable charger covers both overnight stops and faster daytime charges. The 3.7 kW version recharges a medium EV in 11–12 hours, while the 7–22 kW version cuts that time to 3–4 hours.

Both versions come with IP66-rated outdoor protection, meaning rain, snow, and dust won’t stop the portable EV charger from working. The interchangeable plug design allows users to swap input plugs in seconds — household Schuko, UK socket, NEMA, or industrial CEE. Whether for daily home charging or emergency backup on a road trip, the Mekel portable charger aims to deliver portability, durability, and reliable performance in a compact package.

FAQ

Can I use the Mekel portable charger as my only home charger?

Yes. The 7–22 kW version of the Mekel portable charger plugs into a dedicated industrial outlet (like a red CEE 32A or NEMA 14-50) and charges just as fast as a wallbox. The difference is that this portable EV charger can also go with you on trips. Many owners use it as their primary charger and never install a wallbox.

If you have access to a three-phase 400V outlet (common in European homes and industrial settings), choose the 7–22 kW Mekel portable charger. It adds range much faster. If only standard single-phase household outlets are available (230V 16A), the 3.7 kW portable EV charger is sufficient for overnight charging. Check your parking situation before buying.

Absolutely. The Mekel portable charger is rated IP66, meaning it’s fully protected against snow, freezing rain, and ice. The cable remains flexible down to -25°C, and the connector seals tightly even when cold. Just don’t submerge the portable EV charger in standing water or bury it in a snowbank overnight — keep the main unit clear and it will perform fine.

Yes. The Mekel portable charger is equipped with a Type 2 connector as standard, which is the European standard for most EVs. For vehicles with NACS (Tesla) or Type 1 (older Japanese or US models) ports, simply swap the interchangeable connector head on the portable EV charger — no additional adapters needed. This makes the Mekel portable charger compatible with virtually every EV on the market, from BMW and Volkswagen to Tesla and Nissan.

The Mekel portable charger is built with multiple safety protections — over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection — so sudden failures are rare. However, if the portable EV charger does stop working, first check the outlet and the vehicle’s charge port for obvious issues. If the portable charger still won’t start, the LED status indicator will flash a specific pattern to help diagnose the problem. For peace of mind, Mekel offers a 12-month warranty on every portable charger, with a replacement unit shipped promptly if a manufacturing defect is confirmed.
