What is a Tethered AC Charging Cable

A Tethered AC Charging Cable is used for charging of electric vehicles (EVs) at public or home EV chargers, where one end of the tethered cable is fixed to the charger. These EV chargers are typically Alternating Current (AC) chargers with power range of 7kw to 11kw for NA and 7kw to 22kw for EU. The Tethered Charging Cable is designed for charging station manufacturers that require such cable for assembly of their final product.

Q: Is this cable compatible with Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)?

A: Please check car’s charging inlet to see if it is NACS (5 pins), Type 2 (Mennekes, 7 pins) or CCS 2 (7 pins + 2 pins). We offer cable variants compatible with BEV and PHEV of NACS, Type 2 and CCS charging inlets. We also offer cables of Chinese GBT and Japanese Chademo charging inlets.

Q: Does the cable come with quality certification?

A: Yes. Our NACS variants are first to the market UL compliant. Type 2 variants are TUV, CE and UKCA compliant. These are the most stringent certification requirements in North America, Europe and UK. Ensuring leading quality is our top priority

Q: Where can the Tethered Charging Cables be used?

A: These cables are designed to be assembled onto charging stations. End usage locations are for business commercial environment such as for malls and public parking lots, and for home.

Type 2 Charging Cable can be used at any AC charging station with a Type 2 socket, regardless of whether it is a public charging station or a wall box installed at a home. Typically charging stations with Type 2 socket exists in Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Thus, the Type 2 Charging Cable is highly versatile and compatible.

Q: How to choose the right cable?

A: Charging cable and kW variants should be determined based on end users’ geographical location. Length wise, 5m is ideal for daily use at home and on the road. Whereas in some commercial settings, longer length cables could be required. It is recommended to measure out such distances prior to purchase decisions.

Q: Can it be used for a DC rapid charge?

A: No. the Tethered AC Charging Cable is designed to work with AC fast charging and should not be used for DC rapid charging. We also offer DC charging cables separately.
